Hey there! Your hair looks great and you are going to knock out that weekend to-do list you might be dreading with grace and gusto. What are you drinking on these hot, August mornings? I think I reached my limit of iced coffee about three weeks ago, and sometimes it is just too hot for tea so I have found myself turning to juice. Water just doesn’t cut it for me in the mornings.
Before we get into this list of links, I think we all need to take a moment to discover our inner sandwich. Bon Appetit lays it all out for us in their sandwich horoscopes. They nailed me, though I would definitely millennial-up that BLT with some sliced avocado. Also, how did they know about my pink hair fantasies?
Jenny taught me about millennial pink this week, but I am still finding about a dozen different shades of pink that are currently parading under that trendy guise. Regardless, I am pretty excited about Prada’s newest scent. I adored and wore both Candy and Candy L’Eau in the past and they are still strong favorites. Admittedly, I am a bit of a scent fanatic. Candles, hand soaps, perfume...I can never have enough.
How fun are these spatulas? Kristen Bell’s is likely my favorite. I mean...too cute.
I treated myself to a baking adventure yesterday. My time in the kitchen is so often spent camera-in-tow, developing my own recipes, always calculating and rewriting, rather than just picking up a recipe and making it. I miss it. While I do love the aspects of my job and am delighted at any time spent in the kitchen, it is refreshing and inspiring to take a break and just...bake. Food52 had been tempting me with their boasts of the hallowed, life-changing milk bread.
It felt so lovely to bake, but even lovelier to sit down with a warm roll and a bowl full of homemade jam. With each bite, visions of summers past swarmed. I fondly remember my mother's summer tradition of making strawberry "freezer jam." At the end of the day, she would pop open several blue cans of layered biscuits and my father and I would delicately peel apart each layer, smothering it with butter and spoonfuls of the cloyingly sweet jam. The nostalgia nearly seduced me into buying canned biscuits, but no...I had other bread to eat. I've grown up. Of course, there will be other days and other chances for canned reminiscing.
Happy weekending to you, my friends. Grab summer with both hands, she's fleeting fast.
